Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Roland 'Jay' Rugen went home to the Lord on Sunday, April 16, 2017, at the age of 89, surrounded by his family. Jay was born on March 30, 1928, in Glenview, Illinois, to Roland H and Maida (Steffens) Rugen and had one brother, Wayne. He married Joan (Novak) Rugen on June 14, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois, and they were the loving parents of two daughters, Dawn and Diane. They enjoyed nearly sixty-five wonderful years of marriage together. Jay graduated from Walton School of Accounting. He served as Financial Vice President and Treasurer of Automatic Spring Coiling Company in Chicago, Illinois for thirty-five years, retiring in 1993. He was also a member of their Board of Directors. Jay was an immeasurable asset to his community, having served as President and Secretary- Treasurer of the Chicago Association of Spring Manufacturers, as Director of Spring Manufacturing Institute, as Treasurer of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Northbrook, Illinois, and as President of the Condominium Association in Des Plaines, Illinois. Jay enjoyed worldwide cruise travel with his wife, spending time with his family, being a treasured 'Papa' to three grandchildren and two great grandchildren, going to movies with his son-in-law Michael, and was a baseball enthusiast. Jay was well respected and greatly admired by his family, workplace, and community, and will be so greatly missed by many. Having resided in the Chicago suburbs for all his life, Jay and his wife moved to Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, in 2009. He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters Dawn Puetz (Michael, Sr) of Oconomowoc, and Diane DeSalvo (Dan) of Des Plaines, IL; grandchildren Loralee Horn (Ryan) of Caledonia, WI, Michael Puetz, Jr., of Oconomowoc, and Alina Miller (Dave) of Henderson, NV; great-grandchildren Laila Horn and Brooke Miller; brother Wayne Rugen (Norma) of Arlington Heights, IL, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Shorehaven Retirement Community in Oconomowoc on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 1 pm, with arrangements handled by Pagenkopf Funeral Home.
