Russell "Russ" Timmer

Russell E. Timmer 'Russ', of Oconomowoc, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the age of 74. Russ was born November 6, 1936 in Milaca, MN to Fred and Jeanette (Vugteveen) Timmer. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He attended the Peace Christian Reform School through the 8th grade and Milaca High School. He joined the army as a paratrooper in 1955. He was honorably discharged in 1958. While on leave, Russ met Shirley (Smith). They were married in Rake, Iowa in 1959. Russ was preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris, brother Gary, brothers-in-law Larry Myren and Doug Smith and one infant son Jay. He was the beloved husband of 51 years to Shirley (nee Smith), dear father of Jeff (Judy) Timmer of Oconomowoc, Terri (Tom) Reed of Madison, five grandchildren Megan, Laura, Rachel, Amanda and Amber, brothers Don (Margaret) Timmer of Milaca, MN and Loren (Joyce) Timmer of Milaca, MN, sisters-in-law Carol Timmer of Milaca, MN and Ilene Larenz of Hastings, MN, mother-in-law Dora Smith, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Russ enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf with friends and family. His pride and joy were his grandchildren. A visitation for Russ will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Pagenkopf Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 28, 2011 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will follow at LaBelle Cemetery. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors in the ICU department at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital for their care and comfort. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc, WI or Oconomowoc Sports Booster Club.
