Sophie E. Switalski, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024, at the age of 100. Sophie was born on May 11, 1923, in Milwaukee, WI to Joseph and Katherine Switalski.
Survived by her children Carol Dvorak, Daniel and Jeffrey; grandchildren Sally (Brian) Warzinski, Mary Beth Holly, Jason (Peggy) Dvorak, Lindsey (Mike) Luciani, Lauren (Jon) Nowak, Cassandra (Edwin) Wolf, Thomas (Tori) Switalski; great grandchildren Derek (Danielle), Kendra (Tim), Nick, Johnny, Alana, Olive, Hudson, Maeve, Wren, Landon and Lexi; great-great-grandchildren Stella, Charlie and Leo; along with many other family and friends.
Sophie is preceded in death by her husband Daniel; son-in-law Richard Dvorak; daughter-in-law Catherine Switalski; granddaughter Molly Switalski; Mel Schoenborn (husband of granddaughter Sally); and numerous siblings, nieces, and nephews.
She found joy in serving others, a quality that shone through her involvement with numerous organizations, including the Okauchee American Legion Auxiliary Post 399, St. Joan of Arc Altar Society, and the Okauchee Fire Department Auxiliary. Sophie contributed to her community through her work at St. Joan of Arc, where she was involved in custodial duties for both the church and school. Sophie devoted her life to creating a nurturing and loving environment within her own home, where she poured her heart and soul into caring for those around her. Among her passions, Sophie enjoyed the simple pleasures of shopping and cherished moments spent with loved ones.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated staff at Three Pillars and Allay Hospice for their compassionate care. A special mention goes to Nancy Galaszewski, Delaine Theide, Sue Marks, and Monica Goral for their unwavering friendship and support.
In lieu of flowers: memorials to St. Jerome Catholic Church and Three Pillars in Sophie’s name are welcome.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, May 9 at St. Jerome Catholic Church (995 S. Silver Lake Street, Oconomowoc, WI 53066) from 11:00am-12:00pm with a service to follow. Sophie will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Joan of Arc Cemetery.
