Thomas Richard Bergin, Jr., 89, died at Shorehaven, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, on March 18, 2025 from heart failure. Born in 1936 in Minneapolis, Tom spent his early childhood in Duluth before moving to Milwaukee, where he spent his teenage years, often fishing at Port Washington, which he continued to do throughout his lifetime.
He went to high school in Pewaukee, where he met his wife, Florence (Pat) Bergin, and together they moved to Waukesha, Wisconsin, where he served in the Waukesha Fire Department as well as the National Guard. Tom and Pat moved their family to the lake country in the early 1970s to their home on Lower Nashotah Lake where Tom enjoyed canoeing, fishing, and swimming. He was also an avid long-distance runner, frequently spotted jogging around the lakes. Tom loved spending time in the Northwoods, where he hunted, hiked, and camped near Eagle River and stayed at his cabin near Buckatabon Lake. He also enjoyed visiting Peninsula State Park in Door Country, the Great Smoky Mountains and other national parks throughout the United States, and parts of Eastern Canada and Western Europe.
A lifelong Catholic, Tom was a member of St. Jerome’s and enjoyed visiting Holy Hill. Above all, Tom valued time with his family, aunts, uncles, cousins, and wife of 59-years, Pat. He was known for his rosy-red cheeks, sparkling blue eyes, sense of humor, and concern for others.
He is survived by his daughter Deborah (Dave) Callies of Dousman, his son Scott (Mary) Bergin of Oconomowoc, and his son Jeff Bergin of Seattle, and his granddaughters Lulu Callies of Seattle, Katie Bergin of Oconomowoc, and Heidi Bergin of Portland and numerous beloved extended family members, friends, and neighbors.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Bergin, his father Thomas Bergin Sr., his mother Mildred Bergin, and his sisters Barbara and Gail. Tom’s family would like to thank the caregivers at Shorehaven and Prohealth Hospice for their exceptional compassion, care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor for staff appreciation to Shorehaven at 1305 W. Wisconsin Ave, Oconomowoc, WI, 53066. Per Tom’s wishes, services will be held at a later date.
