Thomas Mcginn

Thomas (Tom) Francis McGinn, 63, of Oconomowoc, passed away on the morning of January 28th, 2014, after a courageous year-long battle against ALS and cancer. He was born to John (Jack) and Frances McGinn on November 11th, 1950, in Sterling, Illinois. Tom graduated from Bergan High School in Peoria, Illinois, and received a BS in Biology from Loyola University in Chicago. He married Sharon Catalano on September 3rd, 1977, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and later settled in the Oconomowoc area in 1986 where they raised their three children. Thomas worked at GE as an inventory specialist which afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively to many countries including Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Australia. He later worked for the Target Distribution Center in Oconomowoc. Thomas was passionate about history, politics, and world affairs. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Wisconsin Badgers fan. He adored and was most proud of his children and grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed travelling by train with his wife out west to visit his son and grandson. Thomas is survived by his wife, Sharon; his three children: Jennifer (Abe) Ryder of Barrington, Illinois; Michael McGinn of Moab, Utah; and Katie (Armando) Diaz of Madison, Wisconsin and his five grandchildren: Evan, Alexandra, and Nolan Ryder; Cade McGinn, and Adrian Diaz (expected to be born on March 15th). He is also survived by his parents, Jack and Frances McGinn of Peoria, Illinois; sisters Mary (Aral) Eaton of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Joanne (Michael) Willis of Waterloo, Iowa and brother Paul (Janet) McGinn of Granger, Indiana; father-in-law, Philip (Patricia) Catalano of Townville, Pennsylvania; brother-in-laws Philip Catalano of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Robert (Joni) Catalano of McMurray, Pennsylvania and John (Vickie) Catalano of Harmony, Pennsylvania along with many nieces and nephews. His “granddogger”, Marley, for whom he always had a treat, was loyal and protective of him up to the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marcia; grandparents Oswald and Anne McGinn, Joseph and Frances O’Malley, his mother-in-law, Mary Catalano, and beloved family dog, Suzie. Per Tom’s wishes, a private family ceremony will be held. The family is thankful to the staff at ProHealth Care and Froedert Hospitals for their compassionate care.
