William John Meyer 1927 – 2017 Bill Meyer passed away peacefully on August 22, 2017 at age 90. He was the proud father of Eric Meyer (Cheryl), Linda Meyer (Mike Mitchell), Ted Meyer (Cindy), and Kitty Kollmeyer (Tim). He was the grandfather of nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin brother, Bob Meyer, and his sister Theo Robinson (Jack). Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Jo Meyer (nee Norem) and his parents, Theodore and Lydia Meyer (nee Schneider). Bill was born in Menominee, Michigan on January 4, 1927. He attended Menominee schools and graduated from high school in 1944. Bill joined the United States Navy in 1944 where he became a pilot. Bill maintained his membership in the American Legion post in Menominee, Michigan where his father had once been Commander. Bill went to the University of Michigan where he received a BS in Civil Engineering in 1950 and a Masters in Civil-Structural Engineering in 1952. While at the University of Michigan, Bill met his wife, Mary Jo. They were married August 18, 1951 and later moved to the Milwaukee area where they raised their family. For three years Bill worked for C.S. Whitney, a major influence in Civil Engineering. He then worked for Klug & Smith Company, Consulting Engineers and Contractors doing industrial and commercial work. Major customers Bill worked with included, Ladish Drop Forge, Ladish Malting, Falk, Allis Chalmers, Anheuser Busch, Shrier Malting, Schlitz Brewing, Miller Brewing, Briggs & Stratton, and Rex Chain Belt. Bill worked his way up becoming Chief Engineer, part owner, and President. He retired in 1988 from Klug & Smith Company. In retirement Bill and Mary Jo lived for many years in the Tucson area spending summers at Pelican Lake, Wisconsin. A Memorial Service honoring Bill’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 7 at the Shorehaven Chapel, 1305 West Wisconsin Avenue, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Troop 71 Camping Scholarships.
